COPPA and FERPA Compliance
Effective April 3, 2026
The short version: Students never create accounts. Students never enter personal information. All student data is tied to anonymous access codes, not names. Educators control the only link between codes and student identity.
How AccuFlip Protects Student Privacy
AccuFlip Digital Prints is built from the ground up with student privacy in mind. Our architecture separates educator accounts (which require an email address) from student interactions (which require nothing more than a 5-character access code).
COPPA (Children's Online Privacy Protection Act)
COPPA requires websites and online services to obtain parental consent before collecting personal information from children under 13. AccuFlip's approach eliminates this requirement by design:
- No student accounts. Students never create an account on AccuFlip. There is no student sign-up, no student login, and no student profile.
- No personal information collected. Students access interactive worksheets, quizzes, and games through anonymous access codes. We do not ask for or collect student names, email addresses, physical addresses, phone numbers, photos, or any other personally identifiable information.
- Anonymous interaction data. When students complete activities, we store their responses, scores, and time data against the access code only. This data cannot identify a student without external information maintained solely by the educator.
- No tracking. We do not use cookies, advertising trackers, or analytics tools on student-facing pages. We do not build behavioral profiles of students.
FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act)
FERPA protects the privacy of student education records maintained by educational institutions. When AccuFlip is used by schools or districts:
- School Official designation. AccuFlip operates as a "school official" with a "legitimate educational interest" under FERPA, providing educational services on behalf of the institution.
- Minimum necessary data. We access only the minimum data required to deliver the Service. Student interaction data consists of anonymous scores and responses tied to access codes.
- Educator-controlled identity mapping. The link between access codes and individual students is maintained by the educator (in their own records, gradebook, or seating chart), not by AccuFlip. AccuFlip never knows which student used which code.
- No re-disclosure. We do not share student interaction data with any third party for any purpose other than operating the Service.
- Data deletion on request. Educators may request deletion of all student interaction data associated with their access codes at any time by emailing [email protected].
Data We Collect from Students
When a student scans a QR code or enters an access code to complete an activity, we collect:
- Responses to worksheet questions (answers selected or typed)
- Score (number correct / total)
- Time spent on the activity
- Completion status
All of this data is stored against the anonymous 5-character access code, not against any student identity. We do not collect device information, location data, IP addresses, or browser fingerprints from student-facing pages.
Data We Do NOT Collect from Students
- Names
- Email addresses
- Physical addresses
- Phone numbers
- Photos or biometric data
- Social media accounts
- Any government-issued identifiers
- Device or browser fingerprint data
For Parents and Guardians
If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has somehow provided personal information to AccuFlip, please contact us immediately at [email protected]. We will investigate and promptly delete any personal information that should not have been collected.
You may also request to review any interaction data associated with your child's access code by contacting your child's educator, who controls the code-to-student mapping.
For School Administrators
If your district requires a Data Privacy Agreement (DPA) or Student Data Privacy Assessment before approving AccuFlip for classroom use, please contact us at [email protected]. We are happy to work with your privacy office to complete any required documentation.
